Find the Collie and Sydney’s Amazing Animals of War Books

Jess is the star of her own book!

Jess a Border Collie was our first Therapy Dog for Pet Respect.  She was well known in Hull, having visited many local Primary Schools working for our Animal Assisted Therapy Service.  Unfortunately, Jess passed away in June 2020 but her owner Marina published her first book, “Find the Collie” in memory of her and to celebrate her 10 years work as a Therapy Dog.

The idea for Find the Collie book came about by Marina Hartley (Author of Keal Publishing) whilst working in Schools with Pet Respect.

The workshops are for children with low self-esteem, Behavioural problems or learning difficulties.

Children sometimes feel frustrated and find it difficult to concentrate and calm down.

To try and help at such times we had the idea of taking some pictures of Jess hiding so they could try and find her, sat with me, on a one to one and having fun looking for Jess.

They knew Jess well as she was involved in our workshops and this encouraged them to participate.

We quickly realised this had such a positive effect on the children.  It was particularly successful for autistic children.

We decided to publish this book so schools and parents can use it as a calming down tool.

The book is colour coded in the frames of the pictures as follows: –

Green – Easy

Orange – Medium

Red – Hard

The photos are all taken in and around Hull and are in full colour in A4 size.

The book has been bought to send to people in New Zealand and Australia, who used to live in Hull due to the beautiful photos of our city.

Care homes have also bought some copies for their residents.

The book is £14.99 per copy.

Marina’s 2nd Book is “Sydney’s Amazing Animals of War”

This new book has been especially written for children who have a love of animals.

It is inspired by the diary of a local unsung hero, Mr Sydney Colman. He rescued 2,252 animals during the Hull blitz.

It is a story within a story. Billy, a war pigeon is on an important mission, during his adventure he finds out how many other animals helped in the war.

The book is £4.99 per copy.
