Sarah Clarkin (Gracie’s Handler)
I have always lived with animals. They are so special to me. From a child we always had a cat or cats and we had two different dogs while I grew up.
When I left home once again I always had cats and I have owned three dogs. All my animals have either been unwanted by their owners or from a rescue centre.
Owning animals from rescue centres can sometimes be a challenge as you are quite often taking on damaged goods. I have learned so much from helping and training my animals.
For eight years I worked for the RSPCA Hull and East Riding Branch. While working for a rescue centre I came across a vast number of animals all with different problems.
I have worked with dogs and cats too frightened to even look at you to dogs and cats with no social experience. Working with dogs with absolutely no training taught me many things.
I was the proud owner of Gracie who I adopted. Gracie and I shared a special bond after I rehabilitated her when she came into the R.S.P.C.A as a cruelty case. Unfortunately Gracie passed away in August 2019, however all the happy memories she shared with young and old across Hull through Pet Respect won’t veer be forgotten. Gracie was a trained Therapy dog with Pet Respect.
I thoroughly enjoy the volunteering role within this wonderful charity.
