Bonnie & Simba on therapy duty today, they visited Bonnie & Simba on therapy duty today, they visited a regular primary school ❤️

Everyone participated in some games for a bit of fun and concentration. Then looked at some dog breed cards and discussed the importance of really thinking about the breed you choose (for when these students are in a position to have a dog) and not just choosing a dog because of the look. We even managed to change one of the students choice of dog, based on what the dog needs and what they may be able yo provide them!

Then some light reading/searching for a gorgeous collie in the "Finding Momo" books.

It's an amazing cause! Don't you think Lady & Simba look adorable together in their matching bandanas?
Made by one of our fantastic volunteers (Lady's mum) who has a small business @woofsandcuddles - she donated half of the money from selling these to Children In Need. You're a credit to kind humans, and we are lucky to have you on our team!

Little Buddy boy, one of Pet Respects "originals" Little Buddy boy, one of Pet Respects "originals" attended Marbury Primary schools session today. He's an older boy now but still cracking 🫶
He especially loves showing off his tricks, then once finished, takes himself off to relax.

EDUCATIONAL POST......

🛑 We teach the students to then leave him alone if he chooses to do this. "BUT WHY? HE'S A THERAPY DOG AND SHOULD BE PATTED ALL THE TIME", I hear you say?
Well, it is so important for the students to understand and learn, that 1. not all dogs wish to be interacted with 24/7 (in fact, no dog does, they all have social batteries, like us!). 2. To respect the desire for space and rest needed by our dogs.

Many of the students have dogs at home 🏡 so it is our duty to also educate/enforce anything their parents/guardians are saying to them. Mostly the importance and RESPECT to let dogs have time away from them and to not disturb them when sleeping, on their beds resting or in a small space (amongst other things).

😌This is in the hopes of lessening and preventing the chances of bites occurring between dogs and their people. This is what makes Pet Respect special, we don't just bring our dogs in to be petted constantly (though some love it) or just help through animal therapy interventions (though we obviouslydo have this effect). We aim to also educate! Something that can be forgotten about but is so IMPORTANT, especially since so many people, especially younger children are getting hurt or worse, sadly, by dogs. It can be prevented and can be helped, with the right managment and education.

Thank you to ALL who support our work, because of you, we can keep trying to make Hull a safer and more respected place for all animals and people a session at a time ☺️🐾
